Like a shot your mouth is hit was a heavy sweetness, mixed with an alcohol burn. Full mouth for sure, rather like an alcoholic cherry syrup. Nose is not surprisingly malt vinegar and faint caramel/toffee. A little bit of plum and spice is added for good measure
Aftertaste +1
Once the burn is gone, the brew reveals a sweet caramel and cherry.

It was a nice bold taste I would get again. You can pick one up for $3.50 at BCLS.

Gotta love those strong Belgian Doubles. This one had a less intense flavour than Duchesse de Bourgogne.

The flavour difference you notice between the two is likely because the Duchesse is actually a Flemish Sour Ale and not a Dubbel, although it has become sweeter and sweeter over the years. I recommend checking out Rodenbach if you like the Duchesse - it's a bit more 'authentic' and is more sour without going into the supreme sourness of lambic territory. Cheers.
Thanks you Shea for noticing.
It is all true, I like to try and relate beers with similar flavours for personal preferences. The only brew that came close to this one was the Duchesse and Vichtenaar. I have a review of Rodenbach coming up soon, I found it to be a little more tart than the Duchesse. Both are excellent.
Cool, glad you've tried the Rodenbach. These are all great starter beers - if you feel experimental try some 'wild ales' if you get the chance. You can get some at Bottleworks in Seattle. Enjoying the blog, keep it up.
