Pranqster (North Coast)

Pranqster (North Coast)

Ratebeer 3.47 86th percentile
Beer Advocate B+

Taste +3

Sigh.. Yet another Belgian golden ale. Lets go through the list. Sweet wheat nose, check, apricots/peaches, check, yeast aroma, check, can we get a little spice, check. The taste fits the cookie cutter profile also. There is low carbonation, sweet fruity malt (apricots and peaches) and bready yeast. It all just seems a little flat. Maybe this is the zombie Belgian golden ale.

Aftertaste +1

It is quite dry, sweety fruity and yeasty.

Alcohol Content +1 7.9%

Now here is the plus side; you can hardly taste it.

Value 0

It just lacked that zing, but it was tasty. I must relax a little.

Ingame Enhancement +1

Yup there were zombies and yes we sent them packing.

Overall 6/10

It was a well done Belgian style golden ale. I think it just lacked that magical ingredient to make it epic.

Cru D'or Organic - North Coast

Cru D'or Organic
Belgian Strong Ale

Ratebeer 3.37 80th percentile
Beer Advocate B

Taste +2

No surprises here; nose emitting aromas of sour cherries, sherry, dark sugar and alcohol. The only thing you could taste was alcohol. Very sour flavours of plum, raisin, caramel and chocolate. Overall it was a little intense. As the beer warmed up things just got worse. Organic is not always better.

Aftertaste +1

There were mostly memories of alcohol, watered down dark fruits and earth.

Alcohol Content +1 8%

No hiding this flavour anywhere.
Value 0

For a Belgian it was a little unbalanced. It was more like a Lucky force 8 with added sherry.

Ingame Enhancement 0

Sorry, I got nothing.
Overall 4/10

There are better big Belgians out there, see links below.

Old #38 Stout

Old #38 Stout (North Coast)

Ratebeer 3.51 88th percentile
Beer Advocate B+

Taste +3

The nose is stronger than expected from a light stout; very pronounced coffee, licorice and faded chocolate are very apparent. Oddly the taste is a little lighter than expected from the strong nose, just on the good side of watery. There is just enough coffee, roasted malt and bitter chocolate to go around the mouth. It more malty than bittery.

Aftertaste +1

The roasted malt lingers just a little bit, but it feel a little burnt.

Alcohol Content 0 5.6%

Value 0

It was nice, but if I want a stout I will go for a powerhouse or a Murphy's.

Ingame Enhancement 0

I should take up jogging; last night I dreamt about zombies.

Overall 4/10

It was nice stout, but a little watery.

Le Merle Saison (North Coast)

Ratebeer 3.6 90th percentile
Beer Advocate B+

Taste +4

At first sniff you might think you have been taken to some tropical island. This brew serves up a huge frothy head, complete with fragrances of yeast, flowers, bread, pineapple and other tropical fruits. Even though the head fades quickly, the heavy carbonation remains. The taste is just like the nose; very citrus fruity, pineapple with bread/biscuits. It is very slightly hopped, but it is overpowered by the fruity malt sweetness. I don't think I have seen a beer this cloudy.
Aftertaste +1

It provides a very crisp, refreshing aftertaste. The residue is similar to green apples.

Alcohol Content +1 7.9%

The alcohol is not aggressive, but it does provide an effervescent feel.

Value +1

This was a wonderful Belgian style Saison, not French. I will get it again.

Ingame Enhancement +1

When we play singstar, many, many beers will vanish.

Overall 8/10 BOOM HEADSHOT

Not surprising, everything by North Coast is great. If you are looking for a lighter fruitier beer, this is the one. Rather like Fin Du Monde but less dark fruits.

Old Rasputin Imperial Stout

Old Rasputin Imperial Stout

Rate Beer 4.11 100th Percentile
Beer Advocate A

This is arguably one of the best beers in the world. This is reflected in the high scores from Rate Beer and Beer Advocate. Anything from North Coast Brewing is a good choice

Taste +4

The nose has a faint hint of chocolate and roasted malt. This is one full bodied, thick stout. It is fully loaded with bitter chocolate, coffee and malt sweetness. Thankfully it is followed, or enhanced, by a nice alcohol tingle and warmth.

Aftertaste +2

The lingering bitter sweetness of the dark chocolate is similar to chewing on a roasted coffee bean covered in dark chocolate. It is very long and never forgotten with the alcohol warmth.

Alcohol +1 9%

You can taste and feel the alcohol, but it suits this beer well.

Value +1

This is not an overly expensive beer for the flavour. It is $11 for a 4 pack from the BC Liquor stores.

Ingame Enhancement +1

There is now a critical mass of L4Ders in the shire; this naturally leads to versus games. I can think of nothing more pleasurable than vomiting all over Nightware.

Overall 9/10 BOOMER ALL OVER NIGHTWARE

This is a classic example of how an imperial stout should taste. A nice bitterness, balanced with a malt sweetness and lots of ethanol to go around.

Brother Thelonius Belgian and Blade Runner Boobs

Brother Thelonius
Belgian Style Amber Ale

Taste +4

True to the name, this is a classic example of a full-on darker Belgian ale. The flavours are full and intense with notes of wheat, berries and malt sweetness. Despite the nose of soya sauce this is a good beer.
Aftertaste 0

There is a sweet sensation that lingers and turns a little sickly after a while.

Alcohol +1 9.4%

Hold on tight, this beer gives a rough ride. You can smell the alcohol, but you can't taste it. Very dangerous brew.

Value +1

I have not been able to located this beer in Canada, but I would pay any price to get one.

Ingame Enhancement +2

Normally the score is a maximum of +1, but Meterman brought over Blade Runner on Blu-Ray. Drinking strong beer and staring at Daryl Hannah's boobs is as close to Nirvana as I am likely to get.
Overall 8/10 BOOM BOOBSHOT

You must like strong, full flavoured beer to enjoy this one. Don't drink on an empty stomach. On the other hand, Daryl Hannah's boobs may be taken with or without food.
