Big Red Imperial Ale (Southern Tier)

I like Southern Tier, they make good beer. Enough said; I really must plow through the back log of beer reviews. Thank goodness for 33beers and my obsessive hobby tendencies.

The nose was sweet like bubblegum and cotton candy, yet fruity. There was a tad bit of spicy hops but mostly floral. It was creamy on the tongue but the alcohol burn was not far behind. Once the shock and awe was over, lots of malts flavours were around: grassy, caramel and a little roast. The hops were the confusing part; is that pineapple, resin, citrus and bubblegum? This deserves another sip, there is a lot to take in.

Iniquity Black Ale

I am getting to be quite the Southern Tier fan. All of their beers have been epic.

Wow, the nose of sweet grapefruit mixed well with the slight roastiness. The mouthfeel was medium-full with a slight astringency and effervescence. Up front the hops hit you with a GLORIOUS sweet, ruby red grapefruit and slight pine. This was followed by a mild roasted chocolate from the dark malts. Take their unearthly and add chocolate malts.

Aftertaste +2

The slight astringency from the citrus hops teamed up with the faint chocolate to hang on and never let go.

Oddly it was not that warming.

Two words; Yum Yum.

Had this beer at my buddy Meterman's (Geoff) house. After this beer, one session lager and 1/2 bottle imperial homebrew, all I was good for was video games. Even that was a challenge.

Overall 9/10

Call it a black ale or call it a black IPA, just call me when you open one. I will be there.

Yum! The nose is all floral, earthy hops. With a taste that is creamy sweet, floral and slightly medicinal, I think I am in love! I should also mention the herbal, lemon grass from the malts. The whole package had a creamy, chewy bubblegum like texture.

Usually a pale ale is gone in under 10 seconds. This one makes friends and stays for a long spell.

This is a wonderful, bold and hoppy pale ale.

Still in the basement. It is always nice to find a new beer you really love.

Overall 10/10

The is a great, imperial pale ale. Super sweet hops over a sweet lemon grass bed is a beautiful thing.

The aroma is an enchanting pine, rose water, fresh grass and medicinal earth. With a creamy mouthfeel, your palate was graced with smooth grapefruit, bubble gum and simple syrup. There was a little effervescence at the end. As the beer warmed up you get more pine and astringent hop tastes.
Aftertaste +2

The warming leaves slowly depositing a piney resin hop that waxed and wanes with each breath.

Alcohol Content +1 11%

Oddly there was no alcohol taste, other than the warmth.

Value +1

This is a stellar double IPA.

With Nightware away, Aqua and I had fun shooting gas cans out of each others hands.

Overall 10/10 BOOM GAS CAN SHOT

If you are a fan of the ultra bold IPAs, this one is a must. It is sweet yet possessing big hop flavours of pine and grapefruit. Well Done.
