Pyramid Snow Cap

Pyramid Snow Cap

Ratebeer 3.35 89th percentile
Beer Advocate B

Taste +3

The nose was standard for a winter warmer: vineous, cherries, hit of chocolate and dark fruits. It was heavier on the malt side with biscuits, caramel and minor cherries. The hops were hidden but piny and spicy. There was a good kick of alcohol warmth at the end also.

Aftertaste 0

It was a slippery and silky ending, but it just vanished.

Alcohol Content +1 7%

This is where the word 'warmer' comes from.

Value +1

I thought this was a pretty decent warmer; couldn't drink too many of these though.

Ingame Enhancement +1

This brew was enjoyed in Gord's basement. There was no gaming, but it was drank in good company.

Overall 6/10

The Snow Cap was everything a winter warmer should be; rich, dark, mildly fruity, malty with a good alcohol kick. Looking forward to next years version.

Pyramid Audacious Apricot Wheat

It was hard to get an aroma from the bottle, which was sad. But the taste made up for it. The sweet apricot syrup mixed very well with the tart wheat. A tongue grabbing firm yeast was very apparent at the end.

Aftertaste 0

It was very dry with only the mildest of yeast tartness.

Alcohol Content 0 5.1%

Value +1

I wish this beer had been in a glass so I could pick out more flavours.

This brew was enjoyed at Cyberdogs in Seattle with my family. It was lunchtime at the Seattle Comicon, so the place was a little busy. The vegatarian/vegan hot dogs were worth the 30min wait. Their great craftbeer selection also made the wait easier.

Overall 5/10

Straight from the bottle you could pick up the tart wheats and sweet, syrupy apricots. I'm sure the score would be higher if it was sampled from a glass.

Nose is slightly lemon/limey with yeast. It was not very effervescent with slight flavour of tart lemon and yeast.

Aftertaste 0

After the tart lemon snap on the tongue, it was gone. Just gone.

Alcohol Content 0 5.2%

If was a Hefe, not a good hefe.

Ingame Enhancement 0

Time to cut my losses with this beer.

Overall 2/10

It was an average hefe. No make that a below average hefe.

This brew is just what the name says: Imperial (strong) Hefe (yeast) weizen (wheat beer). Your nose is greeted with the boldest tingle of yeast, wheat, grass, banana, cloves and apricots. The first taste is a little bitter, spicy and effervescent with a medium mouthfeel. Flavours range from peaches, lemon and bananas. The odd ending for this hefe was the light citrus hops.

Aftertaste +1

Overall it was very dry and crisp, with only a hint of bitter orange and yeast.

Alcohol Content +1 7.5%

Value +1
It was a little better than your average hefe.
Ingame Enhancement +1

More Left4Dead2 demo action tonight. It is still a linear FPS, but it looks really pretty.

Overall 7/10

Delicious. Just take your standard hefeweizen and turn the flavour dial a few notches.

It must be summertime, there are hefes everywhere. Sadly, this one is a bit below average. The nose is a little lager-like, citrus, honey and grass. The brew is a little watery with only the slightest of citrus/grain flavours and aromatic hop ting. At least it was refreshing.

Aftertaste -1

Your mouth is left coated with this pasting of sour lemon or bruised citrus fruit.

Alcohol Content 0 5.2%

At least it was free. Thanks to the managers reception at Silver Cloud Lake Union.

I gotta start leaving this criteria out now that I am actually leaving the house.

Overall 0/10

Look elsewhere for a good hefe.

Thunderhead IPA and Raising Funds

Meterman: It must be hard doing these beer reviews week after week.
Flavius: Truth be told, it is hard drinking world class beers and giving my unique, expert opinion.
M: What is the hardest part?
F: It's a financial hardship; these beers are expensive. That is why I plan to have a charitable golf tournament as a fund raiser.
M: Why not have a bottle drive? Isn't it illegal and dishonest to ask for donations so you can buy beer?
F: I never let morality or the law stand in my way of good beer.

Nothing new here; straight up hoppy grapefruit nose. Taste is as expected; a welcome hoppy bitterness with a citrus/grapefruit start and a barely noticeable caramel malt sweetness. For those keeping track, it is rated at 67 IBU.
Aftertaste +2

This is where this one is different; the grapefruit lingering is almost creamy and effervescent. It lasts for over 30 seconds

Alcohol Content +1 6.7%

Nice and light for a crazy hopped IPA.

Value 0

It was good but I would get the Green Flash or the 90min IPA instead.
Ingame Enhancement +1

Still more singstar damage

Overall 7/10

This was an excellent hoppy IPA, but there are better ones out there.
