Naramata Nut Brown Ale (Cannery)

Recently, a discussion came up about under appreciated beers. The first style mentioned was the nut brown ale. It is true beer geeks will not acknowledge this beer on a tap list. Perhaps we assume all nut brown ales taste like Newcastle. Luckily this is not true.

An appreciable roasted pecan, hazelnut and milk chocolate nose was remarkable for a style perceived to be bland. Things just got better with a creamy, medium mouthfeel. It almost could have been on nitro. Hey that's an idea! Try this beer on nitro. Each sip is a pleasant mix of almond butter, caramel, nutella and earthy hops. Smooth is the name of the game here; but not lacking in flavour. I have forgotten how much I liked this beer. Very unassuming, but it always draws you in for another sip.

Naramata Nut Brown Ale (Cannery)

I bought this at my local BC Liquor Store for $3. WOOT, I love cheap craft beer.

Wow the nose was bigger than I expected: mild biscuits, toffee and toast. There was good alcohol warmth up front and a medium mouthfeel. It was a nice caramel malty shot, with mild roasted chocolate and dark fruits. This alcohol warmth doesn't go away. Not sure where the "amazingly smooth finish" on the label came from; this brew drinks like a doppelbock. Did I get a mislabeled or an infected bottle?

Cannery Brewing Maple Stout

It seems that I actually have some readers now. Perhaps I should put a little more effort into my postings. This reviewer has never been a fan of flavoured stouts or porters. Mainly because the stouts were either not that flavourful to begin with or they tasted really good. Why harm a great stout my adding stuff to it. This beer falls into the latter category. The base stout is good and roasty with hints of bittersweet chocolate. The maple syrup, mostly a liqueur like flavour, truly enhanced the sweetness of this stout. The mouthfeel was full and effervescent. Not too thick and not too thin

Aftertaste +2

The bitter chocolate dominates and goes away after a while.

As mentioned before, I am not a fan of flavoured porters and stouts. This one seems to work.

Ingame Enhacement +1

The chocolate and maple syrup really steadied my nerves for an epic night of Left4Dead2 romp through the Dead City 2 map. After 2 hours there were over 6K zombie victims; that's a lot of chalk outlines.

Overall 8/10

This was a solid, bitter chocolate stout that was nicely enhanced by the maple syrup. It was lightly decadent and would go well with a rich stew or as a desert drink.

Blackberry Porter (Cannery) and Beer Fridge Etiquette

Flavius: Proper beer fridge etiquette must be observed by all serious beer drinkers.
Meterman: Beer etiquette, does that mean take care where you aim when passing wind?
F: No. A proper beer fridge must contain certain things, such as several beers being aged.
M: Like your jokes..
F: One each of the major styles of beer: stout, pilsner, IPA, etc.
M: To make up for your lack of...
F: Must have 'Pawn' beers. The ones you don't like and can give away quickly. They must be cheap and obvious.
M: Right on to that! Hey, you always give me a Corona or Blue!
F: It always must have several of your personal favourite style.
M: In your case cheap!

This is another great fruit porter. The nose is a super rich, dark malt and sweet blackberry syrup. A full mouthfeel graces your senses with bitter chocolate up front with support from roast and watery coffee. This is intermixed with a nicely balanced berry sweetness (blueberry and blackberry). Throughout this whole ordeal, an effervescence prevails.

Aftertaste +1

It almost becomes a -1 because the bitter chocolate and roast lingers nicely, but the berry turns sickly sweet at the end.

This is sounding better all the time.

This was a great flavoured porter and I would certainly get it again.

WOOOT for new player L4D content, Dead Aboard has breathed new zest into my online gameplay life. Who needs sunlight; there are vitamin D pills.

Overall 8/10 BOOM NIGHTWARE FF

This a great porter on its own. When it is enhanced with appropriate amounts of dark fruits, you have a winner.
