Singularity 2010 = 11/10
The nose is powerful stuff, full of sweet bourbon, nail polish and bitter-sweet chocolate. This big ABV brew gives a lasting warmth that travels all the way to your toes. Along the way it spreads liquid joy: the tastes are dark chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, toffee and coffee. These flavours never really leave you. Its thickness provides a long linger of warm bitter chocolate, bourbon and astringent vanilla. I hate to sound like a fanboy, but this is perhaps the greatest fluidic substance produced on Vancouver Island.

Drinking one right now. Was not immediately taken by it but warming to it as I read some reviews. Either I'm easily swayed, it's actually really good or the ABV may have some effect. Definitely worth trying.
I thought it was worth trying. That said, I dodn't note the complexities that you mention -- bourbon and alcohol overwhelmed anything traditionally "beery": no hop aroma or biterness, and only limited malt notes snuck through. On the positive side I'll note that it was well crafted/engineered: this could have been *awful* with the ABV and the bourbon taste they were juggling, but it was still drinkable. I love Driftwood for what they're willing to do and add to the Van Isle beer scene, but I have to classify this one as a miss. Just not tasty.
Not every style appeals to every drinker. There are some styles I don't like, but can appreciate. I was talking to Dave one day and we mentioned this fact: we are very spoiled here in beer land. While we snub our noses at craft breweries pushing the envelope, others are dreaming of drinking something other than Blue or Canadian Cold Shots.
