Lagunitas Pils

This claims to be a Czech style Pilsner. At 6.2% I'm not sure how they think this will work. But I will try anything with a Lagunitas label on it.

A little bit too much sulfur and vegetal aromas was mixed with the light grass and citrus. I might overlook this if the taste is worth it. It is. Malts dominate the start with a tad of lettuce, bread and metallic mixed in. In a brief moment, the spicy hop rush starts. It is a mix of earthy, spicy and minerally. This all seems to work nicely.

Wilco Tango Foxtro (Lagunitas)

Apparently this beer is referencing a Wilco album called "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot". I have actually heard of the band Wilco; my friend Gord really likes them. This usually means I won't. I just bought it for the initials.

This one is described as an "Imperial Brown Ale", it tastes more like a Cascadian dark. The nose is all big IPA with citrus, pine, resins and a hint of light chocolate. Always very hop assertive with an everlasting citrus/pine flavour. Your lips are burning after a 50/50 mix of alcohol and hops pounding. The malts are hidden but try hard to reveal their caramel, chocolate and cherry character. I'm sure the IBU reading of 64.20 is in reference to something else.

Hop Stoopid Ale by Lagunitas

This will be a speed review. I just realized that I have a backlog of over 40 beers to review.

Taste 5

Huge nose of sweetness, mostly pine but with light citrus and floral. With this massive nose the creamy and medium body was unexpected. The low carbonation carried an oddly sweet hop forward taste; it was not as intense as expected. All the usual suspects were there; pine, grapefruit citrus, some resin and even cotton candy. Malts, what malts? The 102 IBU's kicked the malts off the taste charts.

Aftertaste 2

There was a long lingering of subtle sweet tangerines and a lot of biscuit malt sweetness. Not a significant amount of astringency was noted.

No complaints here.

For sure a hophead must.

Still in Gord's basement watching The Spectacle with Elvis Costello. I am not sure why but I do not like Elvis Costello. I do not like him with a goat, I do not like him in a boat. Try it with a beer; try I say. Try it, try it and you might like I say. I still no not like Elvis Costello.

Overall 10/10

This is one of the biggest IPA's so far. A hophead essential.
