Now this is a stout. The nose is all about the roasted chocolate and dark fruits. Each sip also pays tribute to the style: creamy, no alcohol with vanilla, roasted chocolate and faint offering of dark fruit. These tasty bits grab on to your tongue and never let go. It was not overly sweet, but just right.

I picked this one up at the Cook Street CBAW

The nose is faint with caramel malt. At least the taste makes up for it. There is big toffee malts with spices. It was a light to medium mouthfeel with a good alcohol tingle. There is also a slight roast and phenolic fruitiness. It was barely carbonated.

It had an oddly clean ending that just vanished

It was not as good as Swan's, but was very drinkable.

It was a good Scotch ale but a little week in the alcohol department. Luckily it was not at the expense of flavour.

For a brew this big, the hop aroma is oddly faint. You can barely pick up citrus and pine; I don't even have a cold. The taste is all hops, pine, resin and astringent. There is a bit of sweetness there, but it is over shadowed by the hop bitterness.

The finish is quite dry with a full astringent, pine mouth coating.

I don't get it. There were great reviews at ratebeer and BA, it just didn't move me.

Nothing happened, went to bed early.

This was a solid IPA, just not stellar. I think it is because we have Phillips brewery in town and you have to be good to beat their stuff.
